This week, new bus routes have come into effect, mostly in NW Calgary. As people are getting used with the majour changes, it is important to check the City’s website for more information and make sure you know the right bus you have to take.
Essa semana, novas rotas de ônibus começaram a rodar, a maioria no noroeste de Calgary. Enquanto as pessoas se acostumam com as mudanças, vale a pena checar o site da cidade para mais informações e ver qual a linha certa a tomar.

Yes, yes, it is Canada, it snows in the summer sometimes. But it also comes with very hot and sunny days! Last Sunday was one of them, and while temperatures hovered around 27ºC, the humidex made its way to the 30s, due to the high moisture that decided to stick this summer in Alberta.
The solution? Go the beach! There are several lakes in Calgary where artificial beaches have been made – and I am talking about real white sand beaches. And, myself, been born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, couldn’t be happier while refreshing myself in those waters at Sikome Lake in such a hot day.
Sim, sim, estamos no Canadá, e às vezes neva no verão. Mas também temos muitos dias quentes e ensolarados! Este último domingo foi um deles – enquanto o termômetro marcava 27ºC, a sensação térmica subia aos 30 graus, devido a alta humidade que persiste este verão em Alberta.
A solução? Ir a praia! Calgary tem vários lagos onde praias artificiais foram construídas – e eu estou falando de praia com areia branca de verdade! Tendo eu nascido e crescido no Rio de Janeiro, não poderia ficar mais feliz ao me refrescar nas águas do Sikome Lake em um dia tão quente.

Sikome Lake is located within Fish Creek Provincial Park, the largest urban park across Canada, and if you haven’t heard of it yet, it is in the South Calgary area (still within the city limits).
The lake is surrounded by a fence to help protect the area and, starting this summer, there is a $5 admission fee (it is totally worth it!). You will find grass and the shadow under the trees, where you can seat down and enjoy your day (we organized a very nice picnic).
Sikome Lake está localizado dentro do Fish Creek Provincial Park, o maior parque urbano do Canadá, e se você ainda não ouviu falar dele, ele está na região sul de Calgary (dentro dos limites da cidade).
O lago tem uma cerca ao redor para proteção da área e, a partir deste verão, existe uma taxa de entrada de $5 (vale muito a pena!). Lá você encontra um gramado com árvores, aonde você pode se sentar e aproveitar o dia (nós fizemos um picnic muito legal).

Also, there is plenty of sand to walk in, play on or lay down and get tanned; and the lake itself – oh, it is big – you can refresh yourself and swim as much as you want. It is shallow by the shore, but it can get as deep as three metres in the middle.
Além disso, a extensão de areia é grande, onde você pode caminhar, brincar ou pegar um bronzeado. O lago em si é bem grande e você pode se refrescar e nadar a vontade. Ele é raso na borda mas pode chegar a três metros de profundidade no meio.

So, my advice is don’t miss it! If we get another sunny day this summer (and we probably will), go check Sikome Lake! And let me know what you found.

August 2016 has come but summer is not over yet. So many festivals have been happening over the last few months, Canada Day has passed and so has the Calgary Stampede. But August is here and there is still tons to enjoy! Don’t let the rain bother you; come out anyway and have fun – but bring jacket and umbrella just in case!
Agosto de 2016 chegou, mas o verão ainda não acabou. Vários festivais têm acontecido durante os últimos meses, Canada Day já se foi e até o Calgary Stampede. Mas agosto está aí para ser aproveitado! Não deixe a chuva te atrapalhar; saia e aproveite de qualquer jeito – mas lembre-se de carregar um casaco e um guarda-chuva, só por precaução!

Calgary Poutine Week is on!!! From today (April 15) to April 23, 2016, several restaurants will be selling the best poutines in town. If you think that it couldn’t be better, it surely can: when purchasing a poutine from one of the participating vendors, you will be also helping someone in need to get a free meal. Wonderful, isn’t it?
